Nurse taking notesUtah State University (USU) requires all international students to have health insurance for themselves and their dependents (wife, husband, and/or children). USU has specific requirements for the insurance coverage of international students. Health insurance coverage for international students must contain the following:

  • Maternity—pregnancy.
  • Repatriation—transportation costs to return your body to your country if you should die in the United States—$10,000.
  • Medical evacuation—transportation costs to return you to your country if you are ill and need or want to go home for treatment—$10,000.
  • Accident, injury, and sickness for students on F-1/J-1 visas—$500,000.

USU offers several health insurance plans, which students may buy. These plans provide the insurance coverage that USU requires of all international students. Here is a list of USU's health insurance rates.

If you have purchased a health insurance plan in your home country that provides all of the above, email Ms. Katelyn Richins at or visit her in the Student Health and Wellness Center, Building 44 (map). She will approve your health insurance policy so that you will not have to pay USU's automatic insurance fee and may register for your classes.
