Planning

It is best to start planning for study abroad about two semesters prior to departure. Applications are due the semester prior to study abroad  (i.e.  apply in early spring semester for fall study abroad or early fall for spring study abroad). Meeting with your academic advisor and a study abroad advisor can help you choose a program that will be a good fit for you.

If your major has a very structured list of courses that you must follow sequentially in Fall and Spring, a summer short-term program may be a better choice. Also decide if you plan to study all courses in English, do an immersion program in a second language, or study courses in both English and a second language.
