Study Abroad Scholarships

The awards below are national or international awards that are competitive in nature. Please review eligibility criteria carefully.

Baden-Wurttemburg Scholarship
For USU students who wish to study at Hochshule Ravensburg Weingarten University, Germany, one scholarship is available each semester
See for courses of study in English in engineering or business. 
Deadline: May vary

Boren Awards   
Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide funding for U.S. undergraduate or graduate students to focus on languages, countries and fields of study critical to U.S. national security. 
Deadline: USU internal deadline is mid-January for the following academic year.

Bridging Scholarship   
Study in Japan in any major. No language required. 
Deadline: April for Fall; October for Spring.

BUTEX North American Scholarships        
Scholarships to study in the UK are open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the US or Canada. 
Deadline: Mid-June for the following Academic Year.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals
A year-long work/study program in Germany.
Deadline: December

Critical Language Scholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes 
A scholarship award for U.S. citizen undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. students to participate in beginning, intermediate or advanced intensive summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers.
Deadline: mid-Fall

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarships 
Scholarships for study (exchange, bachelors/master’s degree), research, and internships in Germany.
Deadlines: Vary per type of scholarship

Freeman Asia Scholarship
Provides funding for U.S.-based undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia.

Fund for Education Abroad
Provides funding for undergraduate students participating in semester or summer study abroad programs.
Deadline: Mid-January

Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Provides funding for up to one academic year abroad. Apply for an ETA position (English Teaching Assistant), advanced study, or research abroad.
Eligibility: Completion of an undergraduate degree prior to start of program in June/July. 
Deadline: USU internal deadline is mid-September. Opportunity for students that have completed a bachelor’s degree before program begins are eligible to apply. Must be a US citizen.

Gilman Scholarship
For students currently receiving Pell Grants. Awards for students in all majors for fall, spring, or summer study abroad programs. 
Deadline: October (Spring semester); March (Summer or Fall/Academic Year)

ISEP (International Student Exchange Programs) Scholarships
For students who apply to ISEP sites in French or German speaking locations.
Deadline: Varies

Japanese Government Scholarships (JASSO)
For students applying to USU partner institutions in Japan, this government scholarship may be available at any given year.
Contact USU Study Abroad for specific institutions.
Deadlines: May vary depending on start dates of study and program availability. Apply with partner school application through USU Study Abroad.

Marshall Scholarship 
A highly competitive scholarship for students with a 3.7 GPA or higher for graduate study at a British university. Must be a US citizen.
Deadline: October 1st for the following academic year.

National Society of Collegiate Scholars 
Honors program that offers generous Merit Awards, Scholar at Sea Awards, and Scholar Abroad Awards.

Phi Kappa Phi 
Eligibility: GPA of 3.75 or better, have completed 30 semester credits and no more than 90 at time of application. Award eligibility period from May until June the following year. 
Deadline: April 1st

Rotary Scholarship 
Recipients serve as Rotarian ambassadors of goodwill.

Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) 
Awarded for participants to a study abroad or language program at a university in Turkey.

The Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation 
Students in a program relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy.
Must be a U.S. citizen, GPA of 3.2 or better, and planning a career in the Foreign Service.
Deadline: March
