Study Abroad Scholarships
Study abroad programs costs can be offset by using grants and scholarships. Typically, scholarship applications are due about six to nine months before you plan to study.
The Office of Global Engagement is offering $1,000 scholarships for USU exchange partners and $1,500 for selected partners.
Gilman Scholarship for Pell Grant Recipients
If you are currently receiving a Pell Grant, then you are eligible to apply for the Gilman Scholarship for study abroad.
The Summer 2019 application cycle is for study abroad programs generally beginning between May 2019 and August 2019. This cycle encompasses spring semester, quarter, calendar year, winter inter-session and January term programs that are a minimum of three weeks in length.

Summer 2019 Gilman Scholarship Timeline
|Mid-January 2019||Online application opens for Summer 2019 study abroad programs and internships.|
|March 5, 2019||Student deadline for submission of online study abroad advisor and financial aid advisor section.|
|March 12, 2019||Advisor deadline for submission of online study abroad advisor and financial aid advisor section.|
|March/April 2019||Complete applications are processed and distributed to selection panels for review.|
|April 2019||All applicants are notified of the status of their application via email. Study abroad and financial aid advisors will be notified of scholarship recipients via email. A list of the recipients will be available on the Gilman website.|
|May 2019||Scholarship recipients must accept/decline their award and submit required documentation.|

For students applying for USU - Youthlinc programs for Summer 2019.
USU departments will sometimes offer study abroad scholarships to specific programs. Check with the department.
USU Scholarships - Department of Political Science Majors (Political Science, International Studies and Law & Constitutional Studies Majors)
Take complete application and a copy of your unofficial transcript to the Department of Political Science office, located in Old Main, room 320.
Huntsman School Global Opportunities Scholarships
For USU Huntsman School of Business undergraduate students, preference given to upperclassmen, with minimum GPAs of 3.0.
Boren Scholarships and Fellowships
For undergrad or grad study in areas, languages, and files of study that are critical to U.S. national security. On campus deadline: Three weeks before the Boren deadline. Please complete all parts of the Boren application before our deadline and schedule an appointment with a study abroad advisor to review before you submit the application.
Critical Language Scholarships
Critical Language Scholarships (CLS) institutes provide fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master's, and Ph.D. students.
For students currently receiving Pell Grants.
Deadline: September for Spring, March for Fall/Academic Year placements.

BUTEX North American Scholarships
Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the U.S. or Canada.
Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX)
CBYX is a yearlong fellowship program to study, work, and live with a host in Germany, and is for participants in business, engineering, technical, vocational, and agricultural fields. Deadline: December.
Spanish Government Scholarship for Language Study at Fundación
For students studying abroad at Fundacion of La Rioja, in Spring 2019.
Freeman Asia Scholarship
Provides funding for U.S.-based undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia.
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
Undergraduate funding for Germany includes a monthly stipend, health insurance, and a lump sum for travel.
Japanese Government Scholarships
Apply through the USU Study Abroad Office.
For students applying to partner schools in Japan. Deadlines vary depending on start dates of study.
Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for U.S. Citizens
Study in Japan for undergraduate students majoring in Japanese language and/or Japanese culture. Ages 18 – 30.
Viadrina European University (VEU)

American Australian Association
Graduate or post-graduate students accepted to an Australian educational institution for 1 year.
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Provides funding for up to one academic year of study or research abroad, after graduation. Deadline: See USU Study Abroad Office.
For graduate or undergraduate students studying at any British university.
